Three-hour and Four-hour Tours
Southern Route
This tour will focus upon the famous Pekelmeer salt pans, home of Bonaire’s flamingo sanctuary, as well as the birding hotspots of Lac Bay.
On this tour, one may expect to see flamingos, a variety of herons and egrets, and, during spring and fall migrations or during the over-wintering period, myriad shorebirds, ospreys, or terns.
Interior Route
This tour is mostly a hiking tour and features the fresh-water ponds of Bonaire’s waste-water treatment plant.
Ducks, grebes, herons, egrets, shorebirds, seabirds, warblers, flycatchers, and other terrestrial birds may be seen here. It attracts a large diversity of birds and is the island’s hotspot, especially during the fall and spring migration seasons.
Northern Route
This tour will make several stops at birding hotspots in the northern section of Bonaire, in the tropical dry forest.
On this tour, it’s possible to see flamingos, herons, and egrets where there is water, but also Crested Caracaras or terrestrial birds. During the spring or fall migrations, or during the over-wintering months, one can also find an abundance of shorebirds.
Custom Tour
For those who are on the lookout for a specific bird, the customized tour is the best option. Although sightings of specific birds can never be guaranteed, on a customized itinerary, Susan will do her best to find your bird.
Bonaire’s YELLOW-SHOULDERED PARROT is a life bird for many, and this tour is best when seeking Bonaire’s parrot, locally called the “lora.”
Bonaire’s Most Popular Birds…
Bonaire’s most popular bird is the American Flamingo. However, the Yellow-Shouldered Parrot comes in for a very close second place!
